November 29

Here we see Nicholas modeling the blanket Annette, one of Carolyn's classmates, made for them. It's exactly the right size for bundling them up in car seats, bouncy seats, and swings.

November 28

No, I don't think Auntie Rose could smile any bigger than she is here with Tyler. But wouldn't you smile that big if you were holding such a cute baby?

November 27

Well, they can both still fit in the boppy together. It's getting tight, though.

November 26

Yes! Kate finally managed to get a picture of both of them with their heads up. You have no idea how long we've been trying to get this one! Nicholas is on the left and Tyler is on the right.

November 25

Is this a picture of Tyler or Jeb? Yeah, it's a gratuitous cat picture. I think I was mostly amazed that he would sit still next to Tyler long enough for me to take a picture; he must really have wanted to be petted.

November 24

Nicholas has liftoff! He still hates tummy time, but he's getting better at it. We'll make him keep doing it because strong necks and backs are important, especially for babies.

November 23

Nicholas is so tired from tummy time he'll fall asleep on any handy surface. Tyler, meanwhile, is thinking, "Um, Mom? Could you get him off me?". They're fun to pose at this age.

November 22

Nicholas is having some fun with Auntie Becky. She's a good friend from Carolyn's medical school. They stopped by on their way through to vacation in northern Michigan. Becky's a pediatrician and really likes the little ones. Nicholas is mesmerized.

November 21

Tyler and Nicholas are modeling some new sleepers Kate's "big sis" gave her. Aren't they adorable?!?

November 20

The glider is a thing of beauty. I'm going to make sure to give thanks for it next week. Here is Carolyn on the maiden voyage (Tyler on the left, Nicholas on the right).

November 19

Nicholas is trying to tell us that tummy time is a special form of torture. He is very unhappy.

November 18

A little post-dinner table talk.

November 17

Tyler has a good head lift! Woohoo!

November 16

We hate tummy time! It hurts our little necks. We must fuss!

November 15

Don't they look like best buds? Really, they're about to cry bloody murder, but the picture turned out nicely.

November 13

No, we don't usually keep them in a box. This is the box that was going upstairs to hold all the clothes they had outgrown (you can see some in the bottom there). I put Tyler in there as a joke and he promptly fell asleep! I carried him upstairs like that (it was almost bathtime) and even put the box in the crib -- all while he slept. Then he had his bath and he was not sleeping anymore.

November 12

They both have very hairy ears. The pediatrician says they will go away, only to return about age 70. We wanted to get some evidence for posterity.

November 11

Nicholas is really enjoying that toy. Black and white provides such good contrast. BTW, his eyes are really blue -- not brown -- but I had to correct that massive red eye or he looked possessed.

November 10

Tyler snuggling with a mom. Notice that he's managed to get a foot out; he's always doing that.

November 9

You know, researchers have actually discovered that babies are hitting some physical milestones late because we all put babies on their backs to sleep (helps prevent SIDS). So now all the doctors and books remind us to give our babies "tummy time". Here you can see Tyler with a really good 45 degree neck raise; Nicholas just dropped his head. They both really like the bulls-eye, while Tyler is fond of the checkerboard and Nicholas leans toward the wavy lines.

November 8

One of the best features of our house is this bay window. It gets wonderful southern sun and has a gigantic rosebush growing outside it (last year it bloomed through Thanksgiving). The cats like to lay in there and watch the bird and the bees. Anyway, it comes it real handy to the boys air time on a sunny afternoon.

November 7

More snuggling on the Boppy

November 6

Back in July we went to San Francisco (wonderful trip, btw). Kate and I went out a few days before Carolyn to do some touristy things and bought these outfits from a street vendor on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. He was a big tough guy selling these itty-bitty baby outfits. We wanted to make sure we got some pictures in them before they outgrew them. Those hats have now become the official "outing" hats; Kate thinks it makes them look like thrasher skateboard dudes.

November 5

This is an early-morning picture of myself and Nicholas. You'll notice that I'm wearing a watch (a new development) and my women's lib t-shirt from my internship at NOW. I hope I can raise some feminist boys.

November 4

We discovered that the boys really like to snuggle in the Boppy. Furthermore, if they're happily snuggling with each other, mom can get up and do fun stuff like wash bottles or switch laundry from the washer to the dryer. Here Tyler is saying, "Hey, Nicholas' head smells kindof yummy."

November 1

I have to admit to getting a really nasty cold that prevented much picture taking Nov 1-3, so you'll just have to make do with some turbo-cute pictures of Nicholas' ladybug wings and the most cherubic strawberry ever.

October 31

Tyler and Nicholas went to Halloween as a strawberry and a ladybug, respectively. We wanted something that complimented each other, but didn't necessarily match. We don't need any candy with these sweet things around!

October 30

We have one pair of matching outfits, given to us by Carolyn's mom, and this is them. You'll notice that like all true Floridians they are wearing sunglasses. Unfortunately, their debut at the local Gator club did not clinch a win, but they were a hit!

October 29

Here I am, snuggling Tyler and Zena simultaneously. She must have been really desperate if she was crawling into an already-occupied lap (she's not usually a lapcat).

October 27

Carolyn burping Nicholas. The splint on her arm is there because she injured some tendons in her arms trying to nurse them while still in the hospital. We clearly don't want an injured mamma, so now she expresses. The boys get the benefits of breastmilk, Carolyn isn't always nursing someone, and Kate and I get to feed them -- so this is really much better for everyone.

October 25

Kate changing Nicholas' diaper. For such a small kid he can create a big stink!

October 24

Here's a candid shot of the boys lounging on the sofa. Nicholas is trying to kick his brother's head. I had to run and get some bottles to calm the beasts...

October 23

Here is a picture of Tyler snuggling with Carolyn. They're so cute when they fall asleep on us; we call it baby crack because it is so addictive.

October 22

Yet another picture of them sleeping in the playpen. I swear, they do other things! Really!

October 20

I came downstairs and Nicholas had squirmed so much that he had pushed his brother almost out of the playpen. I moved Tyler to the other side after the picture and all was well again.

October 19

Aren't they cute when they share a blanket? That's Tyler on the left and Nicholas on the right.

October 18

We're not afraid to dress our boys in pink. Tyler looks particularly lovely in hot pink, while Nicholas is more of a pastel kind of guy.
